Crisis Counselors Provide Lifesaving Care During Crisis

A Boys Town Crisis Counselor plays a crucial role in providing immediate support and guidance to individuals in crisis.

Role Overview:

  • Crisis Counseling: You will respond to inbound and outbound contacts,offering short-term crisis counseling through various communication channels like phone, email, chat, and text.
  • Safety Assessment: Assess the immediate and long-term safety of clients, using your professional judgment to determine the best course of action.
  • Client Interaction: Engage with clients using counseling techniques such as questioning, paraphrasing, and reflective listening to understand their needs.
  • Calm Under Pressure: Stay composed during high-stress situations, seek support from senior staff when necessary, and make joint decisions on further actions.
  • Information & Referrals: Provide clients with helpful information, including parenting skills and problem-solving techniques, and refer them to local services if needed.

  • Procedure Adherence: Follow established procedures and use your judgment to handle each situation appropriately.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong interpersonal, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other electronic communication formats.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Capability to build trust and maintain professional relationships.
  • Quick decision-making skills in sensitive situations, ensuring procedural integrity.

Qualifications:

  • Required: High School diploma or equivalent, minimum 21 years of age.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Social or Behavioral Sciences and previous crisis intervention or hotline experience.

Shifts and Pay:

  • Location: Onsite in Omaha, Nebraska
  • Pay: $17-18/hr based on education & experience (plus shift differential)
  • Shifts: 2nd shift and Overnights needed, with both part-time and full-time positions available.
