Commitment
Since its founding in 1917, Boys Town has welcomed all children, regardless of background or circumstances. At the time, this was seen as controversial, but Father Flanagan stood firm and embraced every child who needed hope, a home and a helping hand. His courage and values made Boys Town one of the first intentionally integrated communities in the United States.
Father Flanagan’s unwavering belief in treating each person individually remains the foundation of Boys Town. Today, we continue that legacy by building a culture of respect and inclusion. We aim to attract, develop and retain employees who feel safe, valued and empowered to bring their full selves to work. Fostering a sense of belonging is at the heart of our mission to save children and heal families.

Raise Awareness
We know we still have room to grow. We encourage all employees and leaders to listen closely to one another, reflect on their actions and speak up when they see unfairness. Personal growth and accountability are key to a respectful, unified workplace.
Support Employees
We offer tools and resources to help staff have thoughtful and productive conversations about their experiences, goals and challenges. Our aim is to create a workplace where every person feels valued and knows they belong.

Leadership Commitment
Our leaders are committed to identifying and removing barriers that prevent people from thriving. We are always looking for ways to strengthen our culture of fairness and support.
Our Values
- We treat people with dignity
- We value each person’s unique story
- We treat others the way we’d want to be treated

Training and Development
We provide opportunities for learning, dialogue and professional development that help employees build understanding of others and strengthen teamwork.
Transparency and Communications
We believe in clear, honest communication across our organization. We share our progress and challenges as we work to build a workplace where everyone is valued and can succeed.

Talent Acquisition
We look for individuals who share our mission and values. Our goal is to hire people who care deeply about children and families and want to be part of something meaningful.

Collaborative Efforts
We encourage collaboration across departments and locations to build strong connections and a sense of shared purpose.
Intranet Resources Page
Our internal resource page includes books, articles and videos that offer thoughtful perspectives and ideas for professional growth.

Community Recruitment Outreach
We build relationships with community groups and partners to strengthen our hiring efforts and invite more people into the work we do.
Youth Care and Health Care Workgroups
We have workgroups in youth care and healthcare that explore ways to better meet the needs of the children and families we serve—and the staff who support them.

Employee Resource Groups
Boys Town supports employee-led groups called Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) that help staff connect over shared interests and experiences. These groups create space for conversation, community and growth. All employees are welcome and participation is voluntary.
Here’s What Our Employees Had to Say …

The role of a Behavioral Health Technician is to monitor, to lead by example, to be a positive role model, and to address positive and negative behaviors that you see.

My success story would definitely have to be watching these kids graduate. Seeing them hit that milestone with so much joy and their family around, it comes full circle, their whole time here.
