Challenges of the Aging-Out Process

In 2024, nearly 50,000 youth in the foster care system turned 18, effectively aging out of residential care. Many Boys Town donors ask us, “What happens when a child turns 18 and can no longer stay here?” The answer can be long and complicated, but thanks to local partners like Fostering Kindness, Inc. and Beers & Gordon P.A., we can ensure these youth transition with all their needs met.

One youth in our Intervention & Assessment Center turned 18 on March 8th, and with less than 3 weeks, she was gifted a new luggage set, clothing, hygiene kits and even an iPad, allowing her to continue her schooling and job search process. Thank you to those who see the gaps in our system and seek to fill them with all the love they can!
