How Did Boys Town Begin?

Since 1917, Boys Town has welcomed children in need, regardless of race, religion, or creed. Over 100 years later, we continue Father Flanagan’s mission of saving children and healing families, ensuring every child is valued and loved.

Boys Town is featured in Blue Baby, A Fight for America's Youth, a documentary that follows eight teen boys in our Family Home program as they navigate challenges and grow towards adulthood. Where Can You Visit the Boys Town Oscar Trophy?

The world premiere of Boys Town took place in Omaha, Nebraska, at the Omaha Theater on September 7, 1938. An estimated 30,000 people lined the streets and packed the train station to welcome Hollywood’s biggest stars. The Oscar awarded to the film symbolizes Father Flanagan’s and Boys Town’s lasting legacy of offering healing and hope to children in need.
